New ORVSD web site sneak preview

I am proud to announce that we have nearly finished the new Oregon Virtual School District web site.

We are adding new resources and links to the site daily. Links to all of the ORVSD educator tools are available on the site: the new ePortfolio system, the course content library, automated Moodle course creation, the podcasting service. More features and content are coming soon.

Hop on over and check it out!

Google Doodle contest

I found the following message in my inbox this morning. I thought several of you out there might be interested.

Every few months, we reach out to tell you about how your fellow educators are using our products in their classrooms. Well, this time around, we'd like to change things up and ask you and your students to take over and send us your ideas instead. Here's what we mean:

Picture this: You're standing in front of your class, but instead of keeping their eyes on the blackboard, the kids are all sitting there doodling.

Do-it-yourself interactive whiteboard

This is a fascinating idea - create a low-cost interactive whiteboard using a Nintendo Wii remote and a projector.

It'll even do iPhone-like multi-touch input!

Get Ready Oregon – New Website Launched

Get Ready Oregon – New Website Launched With Oregon’s graduation requirements changing and students being asked to achieve at higher levels, the Oregon Department of Education is asking schools, students, and parents “Are you ready?”   Today

Advancing Oregon Mathematics

Tabula Digita, creator of the New York City Department of Education Summer 2007 Multiplayer Educational Game (MEG) Tournament, is introducing a special project concept to Oregon Education involving the application of 3D, immersive educational videogames in what would be the first statewide mathematics competition (on Pre-Algebra and Algebra) of its type.

Leveraging Resources with Intel

Intel has been discussing the option of using an application they have developed with the Value Chain Company in Oregon Education.  This would be a no cost application for schools.  The only school responsibility would be administering their content and users.  This is a $3.6m role out with a $1.5m in yearly costs.  ODE’s portion for this would be an initial $200,000, one time cost.  The concept is self funding through private sponsorships that result in logo branding for companies on the main page.
