Google Doodle contest
Submitted by Greg on February 13, 2008 - 12:18pm.I found the following message in my inbox this morning. I thought several of you out there might be interested.
Every few months, we reach out to tell you about how your fellow educators are using our products in their classrooms. Well, this time around, we'd like to change things up and ask you and your students to take over and send us your ideas instead. Here's what we mean:
Picture this: You're standing in front of your class, but instead of keeping their eyes on the blackboard, the kids are all sitting there doodling.

AOL now provides OpenIDs

What does this mean the reference to OVSD? Anyone with an existing AOL or AIM screen name can now sign in using that account here via OpenID. No need to remember yet another ID and password. Sign in once for the session or the day and you're off and running.

More fun with OpenID
Submitted by Greg on February 1, 2007 - 6:13pm.OK, so now you have an OpenID and you can log into the OVSD sites. Now what? Surely this isn't all an OpenID is good for?
Ahhh ... so here comes some of the fun.

OpenID and OVSD
Submitted by Greg on January 31, 2007 - 3:46pm.Well, now. Let's have a little fun, shall we?
OK, maybe not so much fun for someone who isn't a technology-obsessed geek like myself, but I think you all might find this interesting. I've enabled OpenID single sign-on authentication for the project.orvsd.org site. Eventually, I'm hoping to have all the OVSD tools using OpenID so you only need to be logged in once to access everything OVSD offers.
Please note that this is still in development. It's not very seamless at the moment and might take a couple of extra clicks to get you connected at first. Once we get the basic technology tested, we're going to be significantly streamlining things so that it will all just work automagically. Users will sign up just once for all the OVSD services and they'll use the same OpenID to move throughout the OVSD system without having to handle multiple logins, etc.
What is OpenID? OpenID is a decentralized identity system. An OpenID identity is just a URL that you can use to log into many web sites. For more information on OpenID visit MyOpenID.com.
If you already have an OpenID (or a LiveJournal account), go ahead and use it to log in here. Please drop me a note at gchaix@orvsd.org with your OpenID and I'll link it to your existing account here. If you don't already have an OpenID, go to the OVSD MyOpenID registration page or any other OpenID provider (like LiveJournal) and register for one. They're free and they allow you to have one identity that can be used to transparently login to a wide variety of servers. Once you have an OpenID, you can use it here. Please let me know when you set it up so I can link it to your existing account. Note: the linking to your existing account part is specific to adding OpenID support *after* you created your account. New users registering with an OpenID from the start won't have to go through anything, they'll just click and go.
So please give it a try. See if it works for you. Let me know what you think!
